Music History

Context and Technique

An understanding of the history surrounding a piece of music influences how we interpret the finer details of the techniques we use to play the music. During my studies for a music history minor, I have found that the culture and background of a composer influences how performance is executed from the interpretation of dynamics to articulation of phrases.

Context and the Bigger Picture

All music is a product of its composer's context: their mind, their experience, their values, their instrument, their culture, their society, their country, their time. Understanding these elements enhances the depth and meaning of a piece of music. I infuse brief history lessons about the music they play and other famous classical music.
